Fred Quillen passed away on December 24, 2024, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was born in Scott County, VA and was married to his beloved wife Dorothy Flanery Quillen for 68 years. Fred enjoyed attending church every Sunday and was a member of the First Assembly of God. He was employed by RG Craft for several years before becoming owner of Philips 66 in Weber City, VA. After retirement, he enjoyed many hobbies and was a “man of many talents”. Fred was a very skilled artist and craftsman. He would spend hours working in his woodshop and created many beautiful pieces that included his vases that he enjoyed gifting to others.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Clara Quillen, 7 brothers and sisters: Ruby (Simmie) Lewis, Orpha (Rayford) Reed, Pansy (Earl) Wyres, Daniel (Eileen) Quillen, Claude (Mary) Quillen, Eugene (Mildred) Quillen, H.C. (Monette) Quillin, daughter-in-law, Pamela Byrd Quillen and a granddaughter, August Broadwater Caudill.
Fred is survived by his wife, Dorothy Flanery Quillen of Gate City, VA and his sons: Ronald (Grace) Quillen and Jerry (Kim) Quillen; grandchildren: Lindsay (Matt) McConnell, Jason Anderson and Ryan Quillen; great grandchildren: Brady Porter, Meadow Caudill, Landry McConnell and Cayden Quillen; a sister, Beulah Kerr, a sister-in-law, Valice Pierson; along with several nieces and nephews.
